Thoughts After Taking a Big Series Against Detroit.

I am very happy with the way things are going thus far. The White Sox looked very competitive and able on the road against Texas, a team whose park they’ve traditionally played poorly in even when Texas doesn’t have the sickest lineup in the MLB. Follow that up with an easy 2 game sweep of Cleveland and 2 out of 3 against the supposed-to-be-really-scary Detroit Tigers, and all of a sudden this team has given everyone a reason to remain optimistic.

I am very curious to see how Phil Humber looks tonight in his season debut. If his season looks like the one we saw last, then the White Sox will have a very solid rotation from top to bottom as long as everyone stays healthy. That is the type of thing that can keep them in a playoff race.

I will be taking bets that the White Sox beat last year’s run total by about 50 or so runs, especially with Adam Dunn finally turning the corner with a handful of doubles this weekend and Dayan Viciedo ripping balls over the fence. Not to mention Konerko seems to be destroying just about everything thrown at him.

And the bullpen looks fairly magnificent up to this point. Will Ohman sucks, but we already knew that. I do get the feeling that this area of the team could come crashing down fairly quickly with it being such a young group and that they’ve already had to pitch out of some self-induced jams, but for right now I’ll take it.

You get the feeling watching the White Sox, even in the loss yesterday, that they are the team to beat, not the Tigers. It seemed like the White Sox didn’t get beat by the Tigers yesterday, they got beat by Rick Porcello. The late game scare, with the tying run at the plate in the 9th inning, made me happy enough to send the Tigers home a little bit worried. Leyland’s interview made me smile (he is awesome).

3 out of 4 against the lowly Orioles looks very doable. This soggy 50 degree weather will not favor their lineup that is quite capable of hitting some bombs. Advantage White Sox. I also picked up some great seats to the game Tuesday so I’ll try to write something about my experiences for my first game of the 2012 season.
